Sworn translator
A translator authorized by a legal authority to certify translations for official submissions.
What it means
A sworn translator is a translator officially recognized by a court, chamber of commerce, or government body to produce legally valid translations. In Brazil, sworn translators (tradutores públicos juramentados) are registered with a Junta Comercial. In many Spanish-speaking countries, a perito traductor or public translator performs a similar role. Sworn translations are typically required for legal instruments, corporate documents, and apostilled materials.
Why it matters for LATAM submissions
Regulators reject legal instruments and corporate documents when the translator's credentials do not meet local requirements. The right credential at the right document boundary prevents first-cycle delays.
