CONEP
Brazil's National Research Ethics Commission, which reviews clinical trials with international sponsorship.
What it means
CONEP (Comissão Nacional de Ética em Pesquisa) is the national ethics body under the Conselho Nacional de Saúde. It reviews protocols involving foreign coordination, genetics, indigenous populations, and other special categories via the Plataforma Brasil, in Brazilian Portuguese, in parallel with local CEPs.
Why it matters for LATAM submissions
CONEP holds are one of the most common causes of Brazilian trial delay. Consistent Portuguese terminology across the TCLE, protocol summary, and Plataforma Brasil forms is what prevents them.
